Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between hypnotherapy and hypnosis?
Hypnosis is an induced state of trance (not sleep) where the conscious part of the mind is deeply relaxed allowing more direct access to the subconscious which is responsible for accepting new ideas and suggestions. Hypnotherapy is providing therapeutic ideas and suggestions to clients during hypnosis.
Is hypnosis safe?
Hypnosis is a completely natural state and is perfectly safe with no possible side effects.
Can everyone be hypnotised?
Yes, we actually go into trance many times a day, if you have ever driven from point A to point B, but can't remember parts of the journey, then you have been in a trance. If you can daydream, you can be hypnotised!
Will I still be in control during a hypnotherapy session?
Most people who are new to hypnotherapy are concerned that if they really submit to the relaxation of hypnosis and go fully into a trance like state that they will no longer be in control of themselves and can be easily controlled by the hypnotherapist, however this is simply not the case. Although your conscious mind is extremely relaxed it is always on hand to ensure that you are safe and will reject any information that is not in your best interest, you as the client are always fully in control of the session.
What is the difference between clinical hypnotherapy and stage hypnosis?
Stage hypnosis is for entertainment and only the most suggestible people are selected. Hypnotherapy is therapy provided to clients during hypnosis.
What is the difference between holistic counselling and traditional counselling?
Holistic Counselling is an approach which helps clients to heal by taking the entire human being (mind-body-spirit) and their life experiences into consideration for assessment and treatment purposes. In other words, where traditional counselling methods consider the psychological ramifications of issues and behaviors, holistic counselling assesses and treats from physical and spiritual contexts as well as psychological or mental ones. To treat a client holistically is to consider the whole person.
How many sessions do I need?
